The Port Police of Tarragona found itself with a control center that required immediate renovation and ergonomic conditioning, as well as an update of the management systems. Acoustic, lighting or ergonomic problems were among the main obstacles that operators encountered in being able to carry out their daily work.
In order to carry out the renovation project of the critical facility, the Port Authority decided to hold a public tender with the specific needs they required. At GESAB we complied with everything required, in addition to high quality in products and services, which is why we were awarded the project.
Improved ergonomics and comfort
The main objective of the renovation of the control center was to facilitate the management of port security from a single command and control position, in addition to improving the performance and efficiency of operators by taking the ergonomics of their operational positions one step further.
The implementation of Advantis NG control consoles, our most powerful model prepared for the most demanding 24/7 work environments, in two rows of two operators each makes it easy to achieve maximum ergonomics in the space by complying with international standards.
The front row console with a total of 6 meters long was decided to divide into two independent workstations with the aim of including our sit & stand system. This allows operators to modify their posture during the work day and work both sitting and standing, further increasing their concentration.
The 38-inch curved monitors along with the ergonomic arms that support them and the 24/7 chairs with a high-resistance fabric complete the operating position, maximizing ergonomics and health care for the users of the control room.
A LG videowall with microLED technology with 10×4 cabinets with pitch 1.2 and dimensions of 6 x 1.35m in which it allows operators to immediately monitor and control everything that happens in the port of Tarragona. A large-format interactive touch screen was also installed on one side of the room to support control tasks.
The upgrade of the space to a more pleasant and healthy work environment was carried out by improving the acoustics with sound-absorbing panels that prevent reverberation and the distribution of sound throughout the space; as well as improving lighting with a dynamic LED lighting system.
Latest version updated systems
The requirements for the renovation of the critical environment also included updating the management systems used by operators in their operational positions and to manage the videowall.
In this way, the 6 DeskWall positions, the universal source and alert management platform, and DataWall, the videowall content manager, were updated in both software and hardware to the latest available version, which provides operators with more utilities and power in real-time security management.
A highly satisfactory final result
A demanding environment that required exceptional results to be achieved in the 3 months that the space renovation lasted was the biggest challenge that the GESAB team had to face.
